Crime Prevention Advisory: PEIS on Student Pass Employment Restrictions
Joint Advisory to PEIs on Student Employment Restrictions
Important Advisory on Student Pass Employment Restrictions
Birmingham Academy wishes to inform all foreign students of a recent joint advisory issued by the Singapore Police Force (SPF), Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), and Ministry of Manpower (MOM) regarding employment restrictions for Student Pass holders.
Recent enforcement operations have uncovered cases of foreign students working illegally in Singapore, including the use of forged documents to circumvent employment restrictions. Such actions are considered serious criminal offences under Singapore law and carry severe consequences.
Under the Terms and Conditions of the Student Pass, holders are strictly prohibited from engaging in any form of paid employment, business, profession, or occupation in Singapore unless they:
- Hold a valid work pass issued under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act; or
- Are enrolled in specific educational institutions approved for student employment by MOM
Students are reminded that the Student Pass is issued solely for the purpose of pursuing studies and must not be misused to remain and work in Singapore.
Consequences of Non-Compliance
Under Singapore law, violations may result in serious penalties, including but not limited to:
- Fines and/or imprisonment
- Cancellation of the Student Pass
- Prohibition from re-entering Singapore
- Being barred from working in Singapore in the future
Students with questions regarding work eligibility are strongly advised to contact the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) or the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) directly to obtain accurate and official information.
Birmingham Academy urges all foreign students to fully comply with Singapore’s laws and regulations and to seek clarification before taking up any form of employment.
